As an Orbital Dynamics Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and analyzing the paths of spacecraft as they travel in space. In this role, you will utilize your strong technical knowledge of physics, mathematics, and computer modeling to develop and optimize spacecraft trajectories that meet mission objectives while accounting for various factors such as gravitational forces, atmospheric drag, and propulsion limitations.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Design and optimize spacecraft trajectories for various missions, including launch, transfer, rendezvous, and landing.
- Develop and maintain computer models and simulations to accurately predict spacecraft behavior.
- Analyze and evaluate spacecraft performance during all mission phases, including launch, ascent, on-orbit operations, and re-entry.
- Collaborate with other engineers and mission planners to ensure mission requirements are met.
- Conduct research and development to improve spacecraft trajectory design and analysis methods.
- Prepare technical reports and presentations to communicate analysis results and recommendations to project teams and management.
- Participate in mission operations and provide support as needed.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical/Aerospace or relevant engineering discipline
- 2+ years of academic or professional experience related to Finite Element Analysis and Thermal Analysis.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as MATLAB, Python, or C++
- Experience with simulation and modeling software
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Effective communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Master’s degree in an aerospace engineering discipline
- Experience with trajectory optimization techniques such as Lambert targeting, numerical optimization, and impulsive maneuvers
- Knowledge of mission planning and operations
- Familiarity with spacecraft systems, subsystems, and components
- Experience with attitude control and guidance algorithms
- Understanding of the space environment and its effects on spacecraft performance
- Great attitude in the face of extremely technical and schedule challenges
- Experience at a nimble engineering organization or in a highly technical position that required a scrappy, entrepreneurial manner to accomplish tasks with tight time or budget constraints
- Ability to deliver against an aggressive schedule, without sacrificing safety or reliability
- Experience making risk evaluations and/or supporting root cause investigations.
Additional Requirements:
- Working Laptop with basic software.
- Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as needed to resolve critical technical issues.
